Last week we had an enormous amount of rain in Tampa. Cars were stalling in high waters and I saw one person who had the misfortune to drive a bit too far in a parking lot and quite literally drove his SUV into the ditch. While many might not consider Tampa to be a vacation destination, our next door neighbor, Clearwater, most certainly is one. Clearwater Beach is considered one of the most beautiful stretches of shoreline in the country, and with the extra draw of Winter the dolphin, it sees even more families coming for visits annually. However, what do you do if it rains during your beach vacation?
Hop on a bus. Most beach resorts have other attractions, outside of the beach. Throw all your must-have items into your PacSafe bag, grab a cab tour or hop on a tour bus and see what else the town has to offer. Clearwater, for example, has the Jolly Trolley that goes all the way down the coastline from Clearwater to Treasure Island, and you have the option to hop on and off all day long.
Visit a museum or aquarium. Visit a local museum, something that can prove to be both fun and interesting. Another idea is to take the beach indoors and visit an aquarium, giving your whole family a chance to enjoy some marine life.
Go to the cinema. Check out your local movie theater to see if there are any good films playing. Not in the mood to leave your resort? Not a problem. Most resorts are equipped with entertainment centers. You may even be able to rent a movie and watch it in the comfort of your room.
Go shopping. Chances are that you were planning on go shopping at some point anyway, so why not take advantage of a rainy day and knock this task off your list? This way when the weather improves you’ll be able to stay near the water and won’t miss out on any fun beach activities.
Go bowling. Bowling is an extremely affordable to pass a few hours on a rainy day. Go rent a lane and have some fun with your family and friends.
Enjoy a day at the spa. If you don’t have a family to entertain, consider sneaking away to the spa for the day. What can be more relaxing? You may find yourself thankful for the day of true rest and relaxation before the more active outdoor fun begins again.
Enjoy a romantic day indoors. Camp out in your room with candles, music, movies, and tasty food.
