Most college students have roommates during their first year of college, if not every year. For many, this is the first time they have ever had to share a room with someone else. However, whether you have never lived with someone or whether you have always shared a room, living in close quarters with another student is bound to result in problems. Class times and study habits vary. One roommate may want to go to bed early while the other may prefer to stay up late studying or hanging out with friends.
You could try to establish ground rules for late night studying and friends (and this may be a good idea regardless). However, an easier solution, and one that will work well for those daytime naps or just relaxing, is to invest in a sleeping mask and ear plugs.
If napping was a sport, college students would win the gold medal. One roommate may want to nap between classes or other commitments, while the other may be moving around in the room, reading, eating, on the phone, or doing something else. A sleep mask can block out the light and keep any noise at bay, allowing for a more restful nap and enabling the other roommate to move around without fear of disturbing anyone napping.
College life, particularly time in the dorms, can be chaotic. An eye mask and ear plugs can give you a chance to tune out the rest of the world and fully relax for a period of time.
Many students can’t study well with so many distractions around them. Studying in a common area like a coffee shop, dorm lounge or even dorm room can be difficult with so many distractions. Wearing earplugs, however, can help a student stay focused on their books and notes.
