How many times have you checked your luggage with airport personnel and feel left with a feeling of unease about leaving your belongings behind unlocked and, essentially, unprotected? While the chances are the nothing will happen to your bag after you have left it with security, there is always the possibility that an item may be discreetly removed from your bag and you won’t notice until after you have reached home, where the chances of receiving compensation for any missing items are significantly reduced.
There is a solution, however: TSA locks.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has worked with several corporations to produce the distinctive TSA lock, allowing travelers to protect the contents of their bags from theft while simultaneously allowing TSA agents to check the contents of the bags for security purposes.
If you choose to use a regular, cheaper, luggage lock, you run the risk that security will need to open your bag and the lock will have to be cut away, destroying the lock and potentially damaging expensive luggage in the process. While TSA locks are not as cheap as regular luggage locks, they are still very inexpensive and a much more affordable option than taking the risk of using a regular lock and running the risk of having to replace damaged luggage.
Luggage carriers today are recognizing the value placed on security during travel and are producing luggage that has TSA-approved luggage locks built in to the luggage, itself. This is especially useful for hard luggage that, with the help of a TSA lock, becomes nearly impenetrable in its ability to protect your belongings.
