While the number of Americans traveling nationwide will decrease, New Mexico AAA and IHS Global Insight forecast that the Mountain States --including New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Idaho, Nevada, Utah and Wyoming-- will see a travel increase of 1.2 percent from last year.
Is that inspiration enough to start traveling? Who knows, but the July 4th travel bug just might be contagious. Airlines are running last minute deals and if you're worried about spending money on increased gas prices, track down some local events at a city near you to take part in the festivities. Fireworks displays and festivals across the country will draw crowds from near and far.

Boston, Mass - Fireworks + Symphony Orchestra = a night to remember. The Pops Concert at the Esplanade will feature Tchaikkovsky's 1812 overture and set the tone for a pyrotechnics displays with more than 20,000 pounds of explosives.
New York, NY - Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular. This event has dazzled tourists and natives alike for more than two decades. Show starts on Manhatten's lower east side.
Tampa, FL - Independence Day at Channelside. Enjoy waterfront fireworks at the Channelside District lcoated between the St. Pete Times Forum and the Florida Aquarium
