Summer is still synonymous with road trips across the United States. Pack up the car just before it explodes with suitcases, pack up the kids in the back seat with coloring books and teddy grahams--you know the routine.
Before you get ready to put the pedal to the metal, here are a couple quick tips to help you plan your road trip.
- Perform a thorough inspection of all of your tires--and the spare--before you leave
- Check oil and inspect brakes
- Make sure you have a cell phone and emergency contact numbers
- Don't overpack your car with stuff. Use packing aids to help you organize and pare down the clutter.
- Not a fan of maps? Invest in a nav. system--but please, don't leave it mounted on your dash when you go for a bite to eat. It screams, "Steal me!"

Great Tips! A few other important tips include:
1. Ziplock Bags for all the gooey stuff like shampoos, toothpastes, etc.
2. Bunch of clothing for any kind of weather.
3. A Bag full of bags to stash away garbage.
4. A Cooler full of drinks.
5. Air Freshener
Sometimes, a lot of people hire cars from the airport as they have to first fly before starting a road trip. At such times, it’s very important to keep the absolute basics required for the trip or else you’ll end up packing loads of things but no space to dump everything in the car!

That's true -- be prepared with layers of clothing when taking a road trip with varying elevations. It might be chilly in the mountains, but scorching in the valley.
