Traveling abroad never gets old--no matter what your age. But, when individuals with preexisting medical conditions make a trip overseas, they need to create a checklist of items regarding their health before they can have a safe and fulfilling stay.
- Know before you go:
Write down your prescriptions and what they are for before you leave to
keep everything straight. Plan your doses ahead of time and keep them together after
you've landed at your destination using a travel pill organizer.
- Carry a letter from your
physician describing your medical condition(s) and your medications (generic
names, too)
- Important Tip: Check
with the foreign embassy of the country you are visiting to make sure any
of your medications are not considered to be illegal narcotics
- Pack a backup supply of meds
in your carry-on in case your checked luggage doesn't make it with you on
time
